First Post!

I finally decided to enter this blogging universe!

First off, my name is David Leach and I am the chef/owner of http://www.spicecubed.com/, a spice tin company formed in 2008. We offer over 60 spices, herbs and blends all packed in signature 1/2 cup "cubed" spice tins. All tins are $3.95 a piece plus shipping and can be easily refilled using our refill pouches. Refill pouch prices range from $3 to $3.95 and include free shipping.

I started out in the restaurant industry when I was 14 and haven't looked back. While attending UNC-Greensboro for Restaurant Management, I switched over to catering. I am currently at St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Cary, NC as their Executive Chef, and have been for over four years. They are the largest church in NC (from what I've heard) with over 18k members and counting, so I am constantly busy with wedding receptions, priest dinners and such. Over the years, I have tested and perfected my own spice blend recipes and wanted to figure out a cool way to store them at home. I came up with the 1/2 cup tins with magnets you can find on the SpiceCubed site. They stack easy in my cabinet and I can fit all 63 varieties on the side of my fridge.

It took a while to get going, especially with my wedding last year (to the very beautiful Samantha), but I'm now ready to take orders online. In a few weeks (possibly the first weekend in March), I hope to open a booth at the Farmers Market in Raleigh to get some local sales. There has been quite a bit of interest from people looking to save on shipping costs and pick up locally. I'll post on here and the SpiceCubed site when that opens up.

Sometime in the near future, I hope to offer an organic line. Organic spices are a big hit right now and I want to get started, but am having trouble securing steady organic spice suppliers. Again, I will post on here and my site once they're ready to go.

Being a chef, I cook. A lot. And, being a catering chef, my menus are never the same. Every client has their own theme and menu style they are looking for, so I get to try new ingredients and methods. I hope to post some of my favorite recipes on here soon, and even offer some cool ways to incorporate my spice blends into those recipes. I enjoy teaching people how to cook and have picked up a few tricks along the way, so hopefully I can pass them on to you.
